The 40-acre vineyard operates at 1900 feet and sits almost exactly halfway between Grass Valley and Nevada City, with views that include the Pacific Coastal Range and the Sutter and Sierra Buttes.
After an extensive search ranging from Washington State to San Luis Obispo, we chose the location once it became clear that many of best Zinfandels were made from Sierra Foothill grapes. Historically, some of the first vineyards in California were located in the Sierra Foothills, an adjunct of the California Gold Rush. Yes, there’s gold in these hills, both above and below ground!
The climate of the region closely approximates that of the Napa Valley, with cool evening breezes that emanate from the western slopes of the Sierras. These cool breezes, in addition to the soil, make for exceptionally high quality and intensely flavored fruit. |
